Saints
For those of us who are New Testament believers, saved by grace and engrafted in as children of faith. We not only have the New Testament writings, we have the Old Testament too. A wealth of knowledge is poured upon us and it really comes down to taking the time out to embrace it. I recently had a question about the Old Testament, and I did a little search. I came across several scriptures which answered my questions. As I stand before you in this article, I realise how the old Testament is an answer book for all of us who are post Christ’s coming.
Looking at the scriptures and watching programmes about the Bible, it made me realise a few things. If you have scripture telling you something in advance, what is the best thing to do? I would say position yourself the best you can, many people did not do this before Christ came and I fear that many will make the same mistakes as their ancestors, according to the opportunity of inheritance by faith. For all of us who are interested in the Bible and more importantly Jesus, we must understand that Christ is coming back. Will you be Pharisee-like and debate with Christ or will you be prepared (Christ warned us to be – “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” )? They did and these were the men supposed to be learned in scriptures. I am definitely striving for the masteries as Paul explained it (2 Timothy 2:5). If Christ is coming back AGAIN what should you do, knowing the people who expected him rejected him at his first showing? Who is expecting him now?
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Be open to grow
What is on your mind? What do you spend your day thinking about? the days which become years and the years which become life, what are you thinking about? If you could see a pile of all the thoughts you’ve ever had, they were categorized and put on display, where do you think you would have the most stock? How many lazy thoughts have you dwelt on, which led to lazy actions, which leads to lazy beliefs and then through this and by this process, you now have a byproduct of a poor work ethic?
I have been really conscious of my mentality recently and I am thankful to God. I thank God I have been reading books which make me think deeply, this is the only thing I ask for from a book. I want to be productive in life, so I aim to surround myself with productive people, with productive things and then form/develop productive beliefs. I learned long ago, wanting something isn’t enough, doing something about it is enough. If you don’t know how to do something, learn how to and then learn how to be consistent. I like to read the Bible and like anything you do, you can become complacent. Verses you read again may seem boring and may make you think there is nothing new to learn. I also know however there is new things which can be learned all the time from things you may have done previously, going over things is how you learn consistency. I tell myself to remain consistent and to remain open to learning new things. Just like the Bible, I read books and come across things I have read before or heard before. I do not tell myself noting new can be learned. I ask God to show me new things I missed before and develop my thinking. Adding to this point about going over things, reaffirmation is also learning. If someone is painting a wall, they go over the wall several times and provide several coat layers.
I try to be open and look to grow and so can you…
When is it really over?
Just because you wanted to make improvements but stopped, this doesn’t mean you can’t pick them up again. We do things and find things which are productive and easily let them go. While there is still light as Jesus stated in his example about when to do work, there is still opportunity to pick up good habits. As long as you still alive.
Watching the transition
You begin to read the Old Testament in the Bible and you start to discover how powerful Jesus is. You are then able to see how much He actually changed (even though the changes were so small). The book of Hebrews shows us how God had witnessed so many great people and him having a better plan, knew those coming under Christ’s’ reign and covenant would have a better promise and would seal those righteous of the past. The book of Hebrews does a good job differentiating between the two times and also puts you in remembrance of how powerful these people were. All this to show how great we have it now.
The level to which we are reliant on God has changed dramatically. This is not to say we don’t need God, far from it. The point I make now is, God sent his Son in order to break certain barriers which were present before. Now Jesus wanted to leave his followers with power, power which would rest on us if we allowed him to. Something which we could speak out and confess and see. This is like the Rod of God Moses carried around. He went to meet God with the rod he carried, and the Bible then starts referring to it as the Rod of God later. We know it to be the mind of Christ, the Spirit which was leading Jesus. Jesus imparted this to as many as believed on his name. Now we can do so much through the Spirit, in the name of Jesus. We liken this to a tap with unlimited amount of flowing water, we are the only one’s who have the ability to affect the water-flow.
Prayers are now much different, although we search the same source for power.
