One thing I like about reading people’s books, is seeing the scripture inside them, although many do not quote them. I’m reading a book currently which places much emphasis on TODAY. The whole book in its essence is centred around biblical principles which the Bible forewarned thousands of years ago. The importance of today should be ample in your minds, other the years, people have taken their stock out of today and placed their stock in tomorrow. Tomorrow isn’t promised but today is, we are not entitled to get carried away justly, as one tomorrow will never come at some point. We can never say today will not come because we’re here, MAKE THE MOST OF IT…
The first piece of text I want to refer to is from the words of Jesus, after teaching the people many wise lessons, he highlighted to us which day was the most important. “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Tomorrow is something Jesus said here we should take NO thought for, why do you think he would say that? I believe Jesus knew people would do what they have done today in regards to value. They have devalued today (which is the most important), and raised tomorrow. Today alone is enough to change the world. Jesus changed things for eternity by deciding to go through with one day of his life. Many days of being obedient, compounded for Jesus into the ultimate day of obedience. His first day being obedient was not the greatest, it was the last day.
The next piece of text I want to refer to is from the book of James, the Lord’s brother. James urged people to not think vainly about the future but to see that is was God who should determine future things. “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James is going even further here and highlighting some people’s today as the problem. For many, people are focused on the wrong thing today, wasting time on trivial actions, wasting time with trivial people and so forth. This makes them do the wrong thing daily and they ultimately remain in that cycle.
Lastly, lets look at some text from Hebrews, which although is in the New Testament, highlights an Old Testament event. “But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” Exhorting each other today is the only day which is promised for exhortation. In one day which is referred to as the provocation here, the children of Israel did a terrible crime, not only were they not mindful of today, they focused on the negative parts of their past. This was dangerous and kept a whole generation from entering into their great wealth.
